Five Different Planets Will Align In The Idaho Night Sky During An Incredibly Rare Display

Idaho offers a variety of breathtaking natural wonders, from deep canyons to stunning waterfalls and unique rock formations.

There is no better way to spend an evening than staring up at the stars. Stargazing in Idaho is always special, but right now there's a special celestial show — a planet parade! Throughout this period of time, you can see five naked-eye planets in orbital order from the sun. Whether you are an avid skywatcher or you enjoy staring at the stars occasionally, this is one sky show that you’ll be sad to miss.

The planet parade taking place from March 25 to March 30, 2023 is a rare event. During this celestial show, you’ll be able to see Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and Mars. Additionally, some lucky people might be able to spot Saturn.

The display will only last a few days, so you'll want to make plans to see it as soon as you can. The good news is that you won't need to set your alarms for the early hours of the morning. Most of this activity can be seen just after sunset and throughout the night.

Overall, it will be easiest to spot Venus and Mars which are typically the brightest planets. Uranus will be slightly harder so binoculars are recommended. It's also important to keep in mind that Jupiter will be only be visible from the 25th to the 28th, as it dips below the horizon after this point.

The first two planets on display are Jupiter and Mercury. They'll be close to the horizon line and will only stay in sight for about an hour before the earth moves and they dip beneath the horizon. Next up are Venus and Uranus. These are best spotted a bit later when all sunlight is gone. But, look quickly because these will also only be visible for a few hours.

Above Venus and Uranus is Mars. This planet should be night and bright, making it easy to see. And, it should be in the sky for a few hours.

To have the best chance to see this planetary display, be sure to find a dark place free of light pollution. Anything away from cities and large towns should be fine. You'll also want to find a clear view of the western horizon.
