There’s A Mountain Moonshine Festival In Georgia And It’s Just As Wacky And Wonderful As It Sounds

Check a calendar in summer or fall and it can seem like there's a festival in Georgia just about every weekend. From practically all of May to October, there's something going on somewhere in the Peach State, with small towns and metropolitan areas alike throwing shindigs that are worthy of a visit. One of the best fall festivals in Georgia each year is the Mountain Moonshine Festival, held in the small town of Dawsonville. Dawsonville is home to under 5,000 people, but it has a rich history of moonshine-making. It's also home to the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, which hosts fun car shows throughout the year. This year's Mountain Moonshine Festival will be held from October 27 through October 29, 2023, and it's going to be a blast.

The 2023 event marks the 56th year the Mountain Moonshine Festival has been held. It's a great family-friendly event with plenty to check out.

There are tons of antique cars on display, and a huge car show. Moonshine and stock cars have a closely-tied history.

During the Prohibition era, bootleggers would often soup up their cars for transporting moonshine to ensure they could escape from the police. This actually led to the creation of NASCAR. At one point, Dawsonville was considered the moonshine capital of the world.

There's plenty for kids here, with a kid's activity area, plus live music and entertainment throughout the weekend.

Food trucks will be on-site, with all kinds of fair foods for sale.

There will be a craft market, with dozens of vendors expected to be selling their wares.

Best of all, the entire event is for charity! The Mountain Moonshine Festival is organized by KARE For Kids, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps to provide Christmas gifts for local children in need.
