States of Discovery Visits My Beer Spa Orlando

States of Discovery podcast host Sara and I (Marisa) were invited to experience My Beer Spa Orlando, and suffice it to say, we went all in...literally. First, we were given the chance to put our belongings in the lockers and change into our swimsuits. The spa provides a robe to wear, so just make sure you bring spa shoes like flip-flops or slides to walk around in.

Next, we were treated to an introduction by the spa manager, Stephanie, who took the time to detail the beers available from local brewery Ivahoe Brewing and even gave a few tastings in advance. It was nice to try the beer options on tap, so we knew what to expect once we got into the room.

We were in a room for two, which was extremely spacious, and we had our own tubs. Stephanie explained the taps available, how the jets work, and even put on some lo-fi music in the background.

What I will say about the experience was that it was pleasantly relaxing just sitting in the tubs, catching up on life, and enjoying a pint of beer. Take meeting up with a friend for drinks and multiply the relaxation by 100. Sara and I talked about how many cultures and countries socialize around spa or bathing rituals, and how enjoyable they are with beer!

Additionally, Sara tried out the hay bed and said it was surprisingly comfortable, while I spent some time in the sauna. Great additions to the experience, even though we spent most of our time in our tubs.

The only drawback, or maybe what we weren't prepared for, is the amount of hops that you will get on you, in your swimsuit, just everywhere. There is a shower attached to the spa where you can rinse off, but we did need to run our bathing suits through two cycles to a) fully remove the hops and b) get rid of the beer smell. This wouldn't deter me from going again; I'd probably just prepare a little better.

I would also suggest taking a ride share to the spa and back. You're going to have access to unlimited alcohol, and while you might have a few during the 60-90 minute session, it's always best to err on the side of caution here.

Verdict: We Highly Recommend My Beer Spa

All in all, we highly recommend this experience. If I lived closer to Orlando, I would visit as a frequent spa-goer, swapping happy-hour meet-ups for a soak and some suds.
