I Skipped Disney World for This Tucked-Away Orlando Gem and Would Do It Again
Art lovers and nature enthusiasts, escape to this perfectly curated hidden gem in Orlando, featuring famous sculptures, breezy pathways, and lush landscapes.
When I decided to explore the Lake Nona Sculpture Garden in Orlando, I honestly didn’t know if I would like it. I purposely skipped the reviews so that I could have an unbiased opinion of this hidden gem. My honest thoughts? When human imagination and nature connect, we create magic! Sure, Orlando has no shortage of enchanting attractions. After all, it’s famously known for hosting the “most magical place on earth.” But outside of Disney World, there is so much to discover here, including the sculpture garden. Art lovers, nature enthusiasts, and visitors to the area, you’ll adore this whimsical attraction in Orlando. I fell in love with the beautiful sanctuary, and I can’t wait to go back!
About Lake Nona

Lake Nona is a vibrant, self-contained neighborhood in Orlando, boasting a world-class art scene, as well as restaurants, bars, shopping, and numerous green spaces. The family-friendly community is a sub-neighborhood of O-Town, just a few miles south of the Orlando International Airport. So, the town is accessible to anyone traveling to the region.
If you want an escape from the normal theme parks and activities in Orlando, Lake Nona is a great option. With attractions like Boxi Park, a container park with food and live music, and Nona Adventure Park, visitors will have plenty to do. And of course, you can’t go wrong with a visit to the lesser-known Lake Nona Sculpture Garden. It’s a charming space that will brighten any dull day.
What to Expect at Lake Nona Sculpture Garden

Built in 2022, this secluded oasis is tucked behind the Lake Nona Wave Hotel, a trendy, technology-focused hotel with high-end restaurants and bold, artsy decor. The garden, a meticulously planned 50,000-acre space, boasts a lush landscape and a world-class sculpture collection. A free parking garage, free admission, and easy access from Lake Nona Town Center make the outdoor art gallery a must-visit destination. A short walk from the parking lot through the hotel lobby leads to the magical haven.

Immediately, I was struck by how green the space was. The sculptures were strategically scattered amongst the palm trees, lush tropical plants, and flowers. The breezy pathways and the natural-looking grass turf made navigation easy. I especially loved that the beautifully landscaped area was buzzing with bees, fluttering butterflies, and various birds. Even if you’re not an art enthusiast, the garden is a peaceful sanctuary perfect for a stroll or a quiet picnic. The former general manager of Lake Nona Wave Hotel described the sculpture garden as “an extension of the hotel – an outdoor living room,” and I absolutely agree with those sentiments.
While wandering through the perfectly curated grounds, I couldn’t help but notice how intimate the space felt. The colorful benches beckoned me to pause, relax, and marvel at the statues. I was excited to sit at the picnic table with the swings. It made me feel like I was inside a whimsical playground. A surprise was the lovely fragrance from the tropical plants and the pretty little wildflowers sprinkled around the park. And the soft rock music that echoed from the speakers took the space to another level. Secluded, beautiful, and fragrant, I imagined I was walking through my own private garden in the backyard.

Of course, the sculptures are the star of the show. I instantly recognized the "Charging Bull," an iconic piece of art by Arturo di Modica. It’s from the same collection as the "Wall Street Bull," the famous sculpture in New York City. At 11 feet high, the work of art is awe-inspiring, and it certainly makes a bold statement inside the garden. The park features pieces from the Lewis Collection, one of the most famous private modern art and sculpture collections. Plus, there are several metal, reflective figures from renowned local artist Jefrë that I thought were really cool. Each statue was unique in its own way, and I could easily see them being conversation starters.

The Cloister Conspiracy by Philip Jackson stood out to me the most. The hooded figures were mysterious, and I wanted to know more about them. If you ask me, they have a story to tell; they know all the secrets of the garden, and we’re not privy to them. You could spend as little as 20 minutes in the park, and you would see all the sculptures. I was there for a bit longer because I wanted to spend time soaking up the vibes of this Orlando gem.
And when I thought my adventure was over, I stumbled upon these adorable animal artworks scattered outside the garden. It felt like I was on a scavenger hunt, and I was too excited to search for more of these hidden treasures. I discovered a giraffe, a family of deer, a bright yellow turtle, but the red squirrel was my absolute favorite. He stood out amongst the lush greenery of the area.

Overall, this hidden sanctuary is a wonderful place and a welcoming escape from the usual fun you’ll find in Orlando. And if you plan to visit, I’d suggest packing a picnic lunch and staying a while. Listen to the soothing music, watch the birds and the butterflies play, and of course, admire the impressive art collection. Chances are, you’ll fall in love with this artsy outdoor living room, too.
When you’re done, stop by one of the restaurants in the hotel or Lake Nona Town Square. Or better yet, explore the vicinity to see what other fun hidden gems you can find in Lake Nona. Plan your visit in the morning, on a day when the weather is comfortable. The garden is mostly shaded, but Orlando’s weather is humid and can be unforgiving.
Have you ever visited this artsy attraction in Orlando? If not, check out the Lake Nona Wave Hotel website or the Lake Nona Community website to learn more about the collection.
Need more inspiration? Plan a day trip to Winter Park, a charming lakeside neighborhood just outside Orlando. It’s one of my favorite places to escape the hum and buzz of the city.
