The Skyline Drive Near Denver That Will Show You Fall Colors Like Never Before
Enjoy a fall foliage drive through Rocky Mountain State Park, featuring vibrant autumn colors and scenic overlooks.
It's time to get out of town for the afternoon and take a fall foliage drive that will delight you with the rich colors of the season. Head for Rocky Mountain State Park, just 1.5 hours from downtown Denver, where you'll see the mountains lit up in orange, yellow and red.
Take Trail Ridge Road (aka SR-34) to see some of the park's most brilliant scenery.
This main road takes you through canyons and over mountain passes. Give yourself plenty of time to pull over at several scenic overlooks.
The hardwood trees turn vibrant shades of red, yellow and orange, which stand out in rich contrast to the dark green pines.
No one says you have to stay on SR-34. The aspens are all aglow this time of year - If you see a canopy like this, follow a side road to see where it takes you!
Late September/early October is rutting season for the majestic elk who live here in the park. Keep your eyes open for competing bulls in the meadows.
