Tour The Landmark Delaware Lighthouse That’s Only Accessible By Boat
The Breakwater East End Light in Delaware, accessible only by boat, offers historic tours with stunning views and a glimpse into maritime history.
Delaware's coast has a pretty brutal history of wrecking ships and stranding mariners. That's why the lighthouse system around Cape Henlopen was so important when it was established in the late 1800s. The landmark Breakwater Light likely saved thousands from peril along the foggy Delaware coast. Did you know you can tour this lighthouse today? It's only accessible via boat — so book your cruise back in time today.
The Breakwater East End Light may be the most photographed landmark in all of Delaware. Originally built in 1885, it was decommissioned in 1996, and is now open for tours.
The East End Lighthouse is accessible via boat only, so you have to plan your trip in advance. Cape Water Tours and Taxi make regular trips out to the lighthouse.
These narrated tours are wildly popular, and you're sure to learn a ton about marine life and the Delaware coast on your boat ride over to the Breakwater.
Once you get there, hop off the boat and get to exploring! You can see the old rooms and climb right up to the top.
The original 1885 Fresnel Lens is still in the tower to this day, so you'll really be stepping back in time when you check it all out.
The sweeping views of the Cape from the top of the tower are sure to take your breath away. You can see for miles on a clear day!
When you finally head back to shore, you will carry with you an even deeper appreciation for one of Delaware's most iconic sights.
