Spanning 3 Buildings With 500,000 Books, Connecticut’s Largest Bookstore Is Hiding In This Tiny Town
The Book Barn in Niantic, Connecticut, is a massive bookstore with 500,000 used books across three locations, offering a paradise for book lovers.
For Nutmeg State book lovers, a great bookstore in Connecticut is like a dream come true. If that's the case for you, then The Book Barn in Niantic is like downright paradise. This massive bookstore spans three separate stores and has an incredible 500,000 used books in stock at any given time. The selection changes weekly, with constant refreshing as people bring in new (well, new-to-you!) stock. You can find absolutely everything here, from adult fiction to kids' books to non-fiction, so whether you're an avid reader or just someone trying to do more reading, check this place out!
The Book Barn's three locations are all in the tiny beach town of Niantic. They're not too far apart and you can easily visit all three locations in one day.
The Main Barn on Main Street is the largest and oldest of the three stores. It's got a basement, plus a main floor and a second floor.
At the busiest times of the year, typically the summer months, The Book Barn takes in 10,000-14,000 trade-in books a week!
The number of volumes here is almost overwhelming. You'll find an unorganized and chaotic bargain section, nicknamed Hades, where everything is just $1. Except for Hades, everything else in the store is carefully sorted by genre.
There's so much to see and do here. Wander around and you'll find gardens filled with beautiful flowers, goats, and lots of cats.
The Book Barn is open 363 days a year - it's only closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
This place is a dream come true for readers of any age, but it's especially great for growing kids, whose tastes can get quite costly if you're buying brand new books every week.
This is such a magical shop! For more information about the largest bookstore in Connecticut, check out The Book Barn's website or Facebook page.
