">We certainly don't have any difficulty finding great things to do in winter in Connecticut - the state is simply bursting with fun holiday activities, artisan markets, light displays, and so much more. We have a lot of great Christmas towns in Connecticut, in particular. Festivals, parades, and decorations all combine to make this the most magical time of the year, and if you're looking for the perfect city to celebrate it in, you just might want to check out Hartford, CT. The state's capital city gets a bad rap, and sure, it is filled with a lot of insurance companies and other boring businesses. But it's also got a ton of fun things to do: especially if you visit around the holidays!

With an annual snowfall of about 33.5 inches, you've got a great chance of seeing a scene like this if you visit Hartford during the wintertime.

One of my favorite winter activities in Hartford is Winterfest Hartford This fun event runs through early January.

Winterfest Hartford offers up free ice skating in Connecticut, as well as lessons for those who don't already know how to ice skate.

Nothing gets me into the holiday spirit more than checking out Christmas lights, and Glow Hartford is one of the best Christmas light displays in Connecticut.

This indoor display takes over the Connecticut Convention Center and this year's event is larger than ever before. Santa and his elves are on-hand each day and there's plenty to entertain kids and adults of all ages.

The Mark Twain House and Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Hartford at any time of year, but come Christmas, it's absolutely spectacular.

The home is decorated just as it was at the time that the Clemenses lived here. This is one of the best holiday home tours in Connecticut, and it's like a step back in time.

Speaking of famous authors, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Story is performed at Hartford Stage and it's such a fun time for the whole family.
