The Falcon Castle Ruins Trail is a unique castle hike in Colorado that will make you feel like you stepped into another world. Also known as the Mount Falcon Castle Trail, it's one of the state's most unique adventures.
Welcome to Mount Falcon Park, a spot with not only some amazing rock formations but also the Falcon Castle Ruins. Some of Colorado's best scenery alongside a bit of history is a win-win!
The ruins here aren't from a true medieval castle of course, but they are the remnants of a beautiful large 1909 home previously owned by millionaire John B. Walker. Unfortunately, the home only lasted a few years after it was built, burning down from a lightning strike fire in 1918, leaving these stones behind.
The large piece of land and the ruins became what is now the park, which is now beautifully preserved and part of the local parks departments.
These stunning views and rock formations are visible on the trail, which runs 8.3 miles in a loop. It's rated as a moderate hike, due to the uphill portion, but is a great adventure that doesn't pose too many challenges for the average hiker.
Though all that remains of the home are photos and these ruins, this hike is one great way to enjoy local history and natural beauty at the same time.
Make sure that you never leave anything behind when you visit our beautiful parks, not even food peels. Enjoy the trail, the ruins, and other trails out here without leaving anything behind to change it. Happy hiking!
