Welcome to the Royal Gorge Bridge; the highest suspension bridge in the United States.

At the time of its construction in 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge was the highest suspension bridge in the entire world - an impressive title that it held all the way up until 2003.

The bridge spans 1,260 feet across the incredible Royal Gorge and sits 955 feet above the rushing Arkansas River below.

While absolutely awe-inspiring, this view is definitely not for the faint of heart (or those with acrophobia)!

The 18-foot-wide bridge is made from 1,292 wooden planks, which are surprisingly strong and have held up well, despite its 90-year history.

Of course, the bridge has undergone a good deal of construction and expensive renovations over the decades to make sure it remains sturdy and stable. It may look scary, but crossing the bridge is completely safe. In fact, it’s strong enough to support the weight of both people and vehicles.

While your palms may be sweating as you gaze out at the dizzying view, the experience is nothing short of exhilarating.

In addition to the bridge, Royal Gorge Park also offers an entire theme park along the canyon’s rim.

The Royal Gorge Bridge is currently open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., though the closing time varies by season. Check its website before heading out to make sure you get the full Royal Gorge experience!

General admission to the park starts at $26 for adults (age 13+) and $21 for children (age 5-13). Admission does not include rides on the Skycoaster of Zip Line; however, the gondola ride and other attractions in the park are free!
