What Lies Beneath The Streets Of Cleveland Is Creepy Yet Amazing

Cleveland's Detroit-Superior Underground Subway station, an abandoned streetcar station, offers a fascinating and eerie glimpse into the city's past.

Cleveland is an old city. There are lifetime's worth of stories surrounding just about every street, but what some people don't realize is that Cleveland's history extends far below what we see out our windows. This unsettling abandoned underground complex rests beneath the Detroit-Superior Bridge, and exploring it today is a fascinating (if creepy) journey through time.

The Detroit-Superior Underground Subway station began operation as a streetcar station in 1917, and closed down in 1954.

Once a year, the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works opens the long-abandoned derelict station to the public.

The station is in shockingly good condition after being run down for over 60 years.

But the years of decay and ruin definitely show.

The architecture is a fascinating throwback to early Art Deco design.

There are a few scattered things, like this sign, that show what life was like back when the station was running.

Spending too much time in the ruins can definitely start to feel a little spooky.

And creepy messages like this from other tourists don't exactly help.

The Detroit-Superior station is an amazing and eerie place to visit, but don't go alone!
