It is FINALLY pumpkin spice latte season! The chill is in the air, leaves are turning colors, and all of the best local coffee shops in Delaware are starting to release their fall brews. There’s something about fall that seems to make coffee shops and little cafes even more appealing than they naturally are. Maybe it’s the warm atmosphere, or maybe it’s the feeling of sipping on a hot cup of coffee when you know it’s chilly outdoors. We’ve gathered a list of the best places to head when you want to curl up with your favorite cup of coffee and read a book, or settle down to get some work done on a comfortable, cozy couch.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
1. The Cobblestone Cafe, Dover
This State Street landmark is a great place to stop in Dover when you get a little chilly from exploring the adorable downtown area. Grab a sandwich or just sit down and get cozy with a hot cup of your favorite coffee.
408 S State St, Dover, DE 19901
2. LOMA Coffee, Wilmington
Please note, LOMA Coffee has permanently closed.
LOMA is the coffee shop that Wilmington's businesspeople frequent, but if you wait until the morning rush is over, you'll find delicious cappuccino and comfortable spots to sit down and get away from the hustle of Wilmington's streets. 239 N Market St, Wilmington, DE 19801
3. Notthinghill Coffee Roastery, Lewes
Nottinghill Roastery is a little hidden - it's actually inside the Lewes Bakery. There's an entire wall of flavored coffee, so pick whichever beans are going to warm you up, and enjoy a hot cup out of the chilly fall air.
124 2nd St, Lewes, DE 19958
4. Dolce, Milford
Dolce's warm, inviting interior is the perfect Delaware coffee shop atmosphere. The coffee is some of the best in the state, and seasonal varieties mean you'll never be bored. You absolutely MUST try one of their house-made desserts, though, before you walk out the door.
36 N Walnut St, Milford, DE 19963
5. Laurel Coffee Shop, Laurel DE
Laurel Coffee is an oasis in an area otherwise hurting for local coffee shops. Their old fashioned donuts are some of my favorite in the state, so be sure to grab one to dunk in your brew.
215 E Market St, Laurel, DE 19956
6. The Upper Crust, Georgetown
Please note, The Upper Crust has permanently closed.
The Upper Crust is a quaint Delaware coffee shop located in Georgetown. They're well known for their delicous bagel sandwhiches, as well as freshly brewed coffee and tasty pastries. 7 E Market St, Georgetown, Delaware
7. Brewed Awakenings, Newark
Please note, Brewed Awakenings has permanently closed.
Brewed Awakening keeps Newark's college students functioning throughout the year, so don't be surprised by the younger crowd. The cafe fare here complements the variety of available coffees well, and the location is perfect for a quiet study session or just some time to unwind. 64 E Main St, Newark, DE 19711
8. Whereabouts Cafe, Newark
The cozy and cheery Whereabouts Cafe is the place to go when Brewed Awakenings gets crowded - midterms and finals can be busy in Newark! They're well known for their bagels, but their coffee is out of this world as well.
214 Peoples Plaza, Newark, DE 19702
9. The Young Bean, Clayton
Please note, Young Bean has permanently closed.
The tallest building on Main Street in Clayton is home to the most happenin' coffee shop, The Young Bean. You'll find live music and lively crowds here on the weekends and evenings, but the Young Bean still maintains its cozy, coffee shop feel during off hours. Delicious coffee and cafe fare round out the experience of escaping the chill on a cool autumn day. 314 Main St, Clayton, Delaware
10. Brew Haha, Everywhere
Brew Ha Ha has been defending the title of “Best Coffee Shop in Delaware” for 21 years now, and the small chain provides the ultimate coffee shop experience. With a warm, cozy atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious coffee, Brew Ha Ha is the perfect place to curl up with a book or settle down with your laptop to work. The chain is committed to direct trade with coffee farmers thanks to Brandywine Coffee Roasters - and it is the only Delaware coffee shop that uses a purely local roaster.
