Here in the Nutmeg State, we're famous for our history. As one of the original 13 colonies, we're lucky enough to have plenty of buildings dating back hundreds of years, and even some Native American sites that are much older. Those looking for historic restaurants in Connecticut have plenty to add to their bucket lists. It's not tough at all to find eateries here that have been open for decades, but few are quite as old as the Captain Daniel Packer Inne in Mystic. This colonial-era tavern was built right on the Mystic River and has been welcoming guests to port since 1756.
It's not very often you get to eat somewhere that is older than the United States of America, but that's just what you'll find at the Captain Daniel Packer Inne. This building was originally an inn owned by Daniel Packer, who served as a captain in the Revolutionary War.
The inn remained in the Packer family for centuries, continuing to serve as an overnight place of rest for travelers. In 1979, it was purchased by a new family, who restored the building to its former glory.
Interestingly enough, the building was restored using construction methods that were historically accurate to the time period, so it truly resembles what it would have looked like 200 years ago.
The restaurant that is here now is quite delicious, with a variety of American eats to satisfy any appetite.
The menu is filled with all kind of delights, from seafood to vegan options and plenty more.
If you're looking for a slightly more elegant experience, you can opt to sit upstairs in the more formal dining area. The pub downstairs has the same menu, but a more relaxed environment.
Between the history of the amazing building, the delicious food, the wonderful service, and the riverfront views, you can't go wrong with a visit to Captain Daniel Packer Inne.
