The Breathtaking Scenic Drive Through Connecticut That Runs Along The Long Island Sound
One of our favorite ways to explore the Nutmeg State is by car, and there's plenty of scenic drives in Connecticut to be enjoyed. If you've got a free afternoon on a warm day, why not prepare a playlist, roll down the windows, and head out for a waterfront drive? Connecticut Route 337 is a short drive at under five miles in total, but it's a beautiful path and one of our favorite scenic roads near New Haven, CT. You may not have time for a lengthy road trip covering hundreds of miles, but most of us have time for this quick excursion, and it's in an area that's full of attractions if you want to extend your adventure into a day or two. Check it out:
CT-337 runs from US-1 in New Haven to CT-142 in East Haven. It's a quiet road that services several area neighborhoods.
It also runs parallel to the Long Island Sound, which means the drive will take you within easy reach of several great waterfront areas, like New Haven's East Shore Park.
Other nearby beaches include Lighthouse Point Park...
...and the lovely Fort Nathan Hale.
Keep driving a little past East Haven and you'll reach another great landmark: the Thimble Islands. This archipelago is made up of tiny islands, most of which are uninhabited.
Another nearby spot you won't want to miss if you continue on down Route 146 is Guilford. This charming city has a lovely town green!
