This Just Might Be The Most Unique Festival In All Of Arkansas
From peaches to purple hull peas, Arkansas has plenty of food-themed festivals. However, the Bean Festival is one of the most unique for a very unexpected reason. Mountain View’s annual festival is also the grounds for the Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Races. You’d be hard-pressed to find anything more ridiculously southern (or fun) than watching these outrageous races.
This year's festival will be from Oct. 26th-27th, 2018. The festival is centered around the courthouse square area.
Thousands will flock to the festival to enjoy the 2,000 lbs. of pinto beans stewing in giant cast iron cauldrons. The fest also features the Bean Fest Artisans Market on the Square that's filled with handmade crafts from around the state.
But this isn't your normal derby.
The ridiculous race showcases cleverly themed privies steered by drivers sitting on toilet seats. The "people powered potty" teams are racing for high stakes - the gold toilet seat award (and cash prize). Don't worry about missing the detailed decorations as they flash by; the outhouses will parade through the square at 1 pm on Saturday.
