There’s a wonderful oasis located in the heart of interior Alaska.
Hidden away at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a wonderful little garden bursting with colorful flowers. Visiting the Georgeson Botanical Garden is a sweet escape from your daily life.
The Georgeson Botanical Garden was founded in 1989.
It’s actually an active research facility that studies subarctic horticulture. This nonprofit does great work studying Alaska’s fascinating flora!
They work hard to educate the public not just about the plant species unique to Alaska, but also fun things like taking part in National Pollinators Week.
You’ll learn about the interesting little insects that help our great flowers to thrive. They also run plant trials, where they study the conditions of growing certain species in our wonderful subarctic growing zones. The results from these studies are fascinating, and you’ll love learning about them!
There are so many features throughout the grounds that you’ll find charming and whimsical.
The waterfalls are beautiful and peaceful, and there are bridges, boardwalks, arches covered with flowers, and more. Bring your camera because you’ll want to capture these little details that add so much to your experience.
Every summer the gardens host many events.

The gardens are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day every year.
You can visit seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. Admissions are a $7.00 recommended donation.
