The Alaska Botanical Garden is a massive 110-acre horticulture and plant paradise surrounded by lush spruce and birch woodlands.
This is an independent non-profit 501(c)3 public garden.
Here you'll find northern horticulture and native plants showcased in an area where you can experience the abundance of summer sub-arctic growing seasons.
Experience flora native to southcentral Alaska, as well as over 150 native plant species.
Pictured here is Actea, said to be a hardy perennial in our northern region.
From roughly May through September of each year, visitors will find a wide variety of flowering plants and shrubs throughout the perennial gardens known as Lile's Garden and the Lower Perennial Garden.
Occasionally if the weather stays decent, these beautiful displays of foliage can also be observed into the month of October.
There is also an herb garden, alpine rock garden and a wildflower trail at the Alaska Botanical Garden.
As of just recently in 2015, the Anchorage Heritage Garden was completed and is a true gem.
