Huntsville, Alabama, which is nicknamed "The Rocket City," is where the Saturn V rocket was built. The Saturn V was responsible for sending the first Americans to the moon. Huntsville is also home to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, which sometimes refers to itself as the Earth's Largest Space Museum.

Many famous writers are from Alabama, including Harper Lee, Mark Childress and Fannie Flagg. Monroeville, which is known as "The Literary Capital of Alabama," is the hometown of Harper Lee and was the inspiration for the fictional town of Maycomb in her novel "To Kill a Mockingbird." Besides writers, several fictional characters hail from Alabama, including Forrest Gump and Edward Bloom.
Approximately half of the peanuts grown in the U.S. are grown near Dothan, Alabama. Dothan, which is known as the "Peanut Capital of the World," is also home to the nation's largest peanut festival.
