This fort has been around since the late 1880s, and its beautiful buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. It is spread out among Lake Forest, Highland Park and Highwood, Illinois. But Fort Sheridan, being a former military base, has a ghastly past, and many people think it’s haunted. It has been involved in many military actions, and been the site of executions. There is also a cemetery on the property. So it is very primed for phantom activity, to say the least. But there are also a load of legends circulating, too, like the lady who died in the tower because there were too many steps. For the people who have seen ghosts, however, it is very real, and very scary. A few people haveff reported seeing the ghost of a little boy on the property. The main fort was closed in 1993. Much of it is now an open space where people can explore. Will you see a spirit? Do you think it’s haunted? There is only one way to find out.
