But did you know that Flathead Lake is actually the most photographed lake in the nation? As photogenic as it is, that’s really not surprising.
This beauty is located in northwest Montana and surrounded by charming small towns.
Recreation on and around the lake includes fishing, swimming, boating, water sports, camping, and good old-fashioned lakeside lounging.

In fact, it's one of the cleanest lakes of its size and type anywhere in populated areas of the world. The lake is clear in part because it's low in nutrients that promote the growth of algae.
The legend goes back centuries, when the first native tribe in the area lived on an island in the middle of the lake and spotted the monster. Of course, this has never been proven, but some Montanans swear they've seen "Flessie" to this day.
