Nothing good happens in a town by the name of Tombstone… right? That’s not entirely true, although this legendary Old West town has quite a storied past. Plenty of visitors report having spooky encounters with spirits that have never left, and with the anniversary of the infamous shootout at O.K. Corral approaching, the opportunity to witness paranormal activity couldn’t be any better. If you want to make your ghost hunt even more fun, hop aboard the Tombstone Trolley for a historic ride back to a time of outlaws, gunfights, public hangings, and a lot of gruesome deaths resulting in vengeful spirits.
Tombstone is a prime hotspot for paranormal activity, largely due to the violent events that took place here. October 26, 2018 marks the 137th anniversary of one of the most famous - and deadly - altercations: the O.K. Corral shootout. The spirits of those who perished that day are bound to be back and hungry for blood.
On weekends, you can hop aboard the Tombstone Trolley Tour for a particularly ghoulish ride on its Ghosts & Murder Tour. You’ll visit 13 of the town's spookiest sites, many of which are alleged to be haunted.
One of the most notable stops is the Boothill Graveyard, which was established in 1878 and contains about 250 graves - including those of the outlaws killed at O.K. Corral.
Legends say that as the anniversary of the gunfight approaches each year, these three restless souls arise to avenge their deaths. Anyone unfortunate enough to be standing nearby just might be mistaken for their killer.
Although the gallows that stand today are replicas, the negative energy generated from such gruesome deaths cannot be destroyed. Paranormal investigators often believe that seeing such a structure, original or replica, can act as a trigger object for spirits with connections to it in life… and in death. I certainly wouldn't want to come face-to-face with an entity whose last memory was plunging to their doom in front of cheering onlookers.
You’ll pass by the former home of Doc Holliday, the gunslinger who fired the fatal shot at Tom McLaury (and possibly his brother as well).
Although clearly dilapidated, enough of the structure still stands to harbor Holliday's ruthless nature. He probably wouldn't be pleased to see people traipsing through his property.
The old home of Wyatt Earp is also a tour destination.
Wyatt Earp served as a deputy marshal to his brother, Virgil, who was the town marshal of Tombstone. The lawmen enforced a city ordinance that prohibited carrying weapons and both were present at the O.K. Corral shootout. If his spirit still lives on, it likely won't bring harm - in fact, it might protect you from those of the vicious outlaws looking to kill anyone in their path.
