The Spooky Arizona Hike That Will Lead You Somewhere Deserted
If you’re looking for something different to do this Halloween night, keep reading.
We all know the story of Lost Dutchman Mine. Whether it exists or not, countless explorers have disappeared searching for its elusive treasure. Treasure Loop Trail takes hikers through the very state park where the mysterious gold is said to be located – and, consequently, where the wandering souls of those who perished on their journey supposedly roam.
A 2.3-mile loop, this moderately-difficult trek winds around the base of the eerie Superstition Mountains. Given the lore surrounding Lost Dutchman Mine, every step you take will be absolutely rife with fear.
Since the park has so many different hikes, you shouldn't have to share the pathway unless it's a weekend. That means the wandering spirits of explorers who perished while searching for the elusive treasure will be more likely to make their presence known.
Adding to the mysteriousness, petroglyphs can be seen on many rock formations. Imagining what the Native peoples might have been communicating is absolutely fascinating.
Timing your visit just right results in a thick blanket of fog surrounding the mountaintops. Perhaps Mother Nature will cooperate and put on a spooky show for Halloween night.
Even if those low-hanging clouds don't make an appearance, Arizona sunsets never disappoint. You'll find Lost Dutchman State Park at 6109 N Apache Trail, Apache Junction, AZ 85119 to see the magnificence firsthand.
Have you ever hiked the Treasure Loop Trail? Are there any other spooky hikes in Arizona that would be perfect for Halloween night? Here’s one of our favorites.
