Every state has to have a quirky eatery, a place where you can gorge on the best-tasting comfort food you know to the well-meaning chants of rabid diners around you. Isn’t that what’s necessary in your home state? Whether or not you’re competitive about what you put in your mouth, you have to admit, it’s pretty fun to watch restaurant-endorsed eating when it comes with a laughable edge of southern charm. We made our way out to Kooky Canuck in Memphis, Tennessee for our fix, and it’s a visit we’ll never forget.
The Kooky Canuck is a west Tennessee burger chain with two locations, once in the aforementioned Memphis and the other in Cordova. Both have the same streak of local flare and delicious burgers that keep the public knee deep in good food and fun times.
The intimate chain is well-known for bringing a solid Canadian burger to the heart of the American south. Rife with fun-loving employees coupled with a decadent menu, this is the kind of place you come back to, again and again.
But what's up with these burgers, you say? Well, here's a picture of just a regular burger. An ooey-gooey, beautiful specimen of deliciousness all wrapped up in a warm, squishy bun. Does that sound appealing to you, because we just left our diet in the dust...
The space is open and easy for families and couples alike, which means you don't have to worry about squeezing into a tiny booth or fielding rough looks from your waiter. The whole family is welcomed with a smile - after all, how can you be sad with a burger on the way?
Okay, now for the ultra-epic burger eating challenge. There are three levels: the 4-pound Kookamonga, the 6-pound King Kookamonga, and the 12-pound Humonga Kookamonga. Each has to be eaten in 60 minutes, either between one, two or four people. We're sure you can figure out which tier belongs to which, but just know: you don't have to eat a 12-pound cheeseburger alone.
If you're able to complete the challenge in under 60 minutes, the burger is on the house and you get your photo on the Wall of Fame. That sounds pretty amazing, don't you think?
You can grab a burger - massive or otherwise - for yourself at 87 S 2nd Street in Memphis, Tennessee, or 1250 N Germantown Pkwy #123 in Cordova. Hours of operation run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., seven days a week.
