The Wyoming Restaurant In The Middle Of Nowhere That’s So Worth The Journey

Food can make you do some pretty crazy things, like driving to the middle of nowhere just to get that perfect meal. There is a remote restaurant in Wyoming where the drive is so worth it because of all the beautiful scenery along the way and a final destination offering you some of the best food around.

This quaint restaurant sits nestled along the banks of the Medicine Bow River among a forest of Cottonwood Trees and the gorgeous presence of the Snowy Mountain Range. It's a great place to stop for dinner when traveling from Denver to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park or the town of Jackson. The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel Restaurant is known as Wyoming's hidden gem because it slips under the radar at its secluded spot which is halfway between Laramie and Rawlins.

The hotel itself dates back to the Big Band Era. In 1880, a dance hall with a springy dance floor was built and became a social venue for what was otherwise a pretty lonely environment. The pavilion attracted the likes of Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey and Lawrence Welk which pulled Wyoming into the popular music scene of the time.

The Victorian restaurant offers a la carte breakfast and gourmet dinners. Susan Prescott-Havers is the owner and chef. She graduated from the Ecole de Cordon Bleu and Steven Spurrier's Wine School in Paris. She creates amazing dishes that are a blend of home-style cooking and of European gourmet flavor.

The menu is a combination of fine American dining and European gourmet. Some of the menu items include steak, beef stroganoff, lamb, pork chops, seafood, duck, chicken and pasta. So many delectable choices.

If you're too full to drive home, just stay and spend the night.
