10 Unwritten Rules Every New Hampshirite Lives By ‘Til Death
When you think about it, the culture of a place really comes down to a set of unwritten rules that locals abide by (and use to identify the outsiders!) If you've lived in New Hampshire for a few years or all your life, these will feel familiar to you – and if you're thinking about moving to the Granite State, consider this your handbook.
1. Never put off switching to your snow tires.
And don't rush to to take them off - winter never starts or ends when you expect in New Hampshire.
2. Yankees fans are not welcome here.
We may love to rag on Massachusetts, but we are very loyal to their sports teams.
3. Wherever you're going, "you can't get thar from har".
Or, you can – but it'll take a while. Going east to west in New Hampshire involves a lot of driving north and south. At least you know the scenery will be nice.
4. Never buy anything if you have to buy sales tax.
There's a good reason we don't buy anything in Taxachusetts - especially liquor.
5. Local beer is best.

New Hampshire loves its brews, and with plenty of local craft beer to choose from we're all happy to support our state's economy.
6. Always wear layers.

It's easy to get three seasons in a day in New Hampshire, so it's only reasonable to wear shorts with a sweatshirt.
7. Stay far, far away from cars with these plates.
Massachusetts drivers are undeniably the worst.
8. Live free or die.
We take our state motto seriously - so decisions like whether or not to wear a motorcycle helmet are left entirely up to the individual.
9. The water will never be warm enough for a sane person to swim in.
But we certainly won't let that stop us.
10. There's no better state in the nation.
We may complain from time to time, but we would never leave New Hampshire.
