Have you visited Lafayette lately? After being named the happiest city in the entire country, Lafayette just continues to shine in all of the amazing ways we know and love. Here's why you should consider making a move ASAP.
1. The Cultural Heritage
There are not one, but two incredible interactive museums/mini villages celebrating the heritage of the Cajun culture in this area: Vermillionville and Acadian Village. They are both awesome and are a testament to the commitment this community has made to remembering their cultural legacy.
2. The People Are Happy
In a recent Harvard study, people who lived in Lafayette were recognized as being not only the happiest people in Louisiana― but the happiest people in the entire country. You can't really get much better than that!
3. Amazing Food
Being in the heart of Cajun Country, it's no surprise that the food here is amazing. What has been changing lately, though, is that Lafayette has been receiving national recognition. Recently chef Justin Girouard of French Press restaurant received a James Beard Award nomination. Could it be because of their Sweet Baby Breesus breakfast sandwich, pictured here? If you've tried it, you'll probably agree!
4. The Nature
Lafayette is surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural areas in all of the state, including gorgeous Lake Martin which attracts birders from near and far.
5. Watching Football in the "Swamp"
While the team isn't quite as big as LSU, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns are still really entertaining to watch and make for some awesome fall nights through the year. The stadium is beautiful!

There's always somewhere to let loose and explore in the surrounding areas of Lafayette, and the fun loving spirit of this town will definitely get you inspired.
7. The Arts and Culture Scene
There is an amazing arts and culture scene in Lafayette, where music and visual art is encouraged and supported from kids to adults. This downtown center for the arts serves as the epicenter for all the cultural happenings.
8. St. John's Cathedral
This historic church is another landmark of Lafayette, and the beauty is completely unmatched. It's an awesome example of Romanesque revival architecture and the grounds include one of the most gorgeous Live Oak trees in the South.
9. The Festivals
Just this upcoming weekend in Lafayette there are a bunch of amazing festivals to choose from--and the schedule continues all year long! Blackpot, coming up this weekend and pictured here, includes a huge cook-off that has become one of the most popular fests in Louisiana.
10. Supportive Community
Over the past few years Lafayette has had some difficult times--most notably when a shooter killed two beloved Lafayette residents in a movie theater. But throughout all of that struggle, the amazing and supportive community of this town has always shown through. It's one of the best aspects of the city.
