10 Unwritten Rules Every Delawarean Lives By ‘Til Death

Delawareans have unique habits and traditions that bond them together and set them apart from others.

Some Delaware habits are so ingrained in us that they become a part of the fabric of who we are - and we don't even realize that maybe we do things a little differently. These unwritten Delaware rules give us Delawareans something to bond over, even if we don't realize that we're unique in keeping up with them forever.

1. Fall is Beach Season.

We avoid the beach towns in June, July and August - but that's just because we know the best time to head down to the beach is September.

2. Never settle for less than the best... ice cream.

Delawareans are ice cream snobs! We have so many creameries that we won't settle for the fake, processed stuff.

3. Avoid Dover during Race Weekend, or Firefly.

We love our capital city - but you'll find us somewhere else when NASACAR or Firefly come to town.

4. Always root for UD.

GO BLUE HENS! We love rooting for UD... we don't have any other big sports teams to root for, so it works out well.

5. Fries go best with vinegar.

Thrashers has conditioned us, and now ketchup just feels wrong.

6. Don't diss the DuPonts.

They gave us Winterthur, Nemours, Hagley, and the names of about a million roads in our state.

7. Don't question scrapple.

What's in it? We don't ask. We don't care - it's delicious.

8. Our Bay Towns Are The Best Kept Secret.

Sure, head to Rehoboth and Dewey during the summer... we'll be enjoying Bowers, Pickering, and Woodland Beach.

9. Crabs are picked, not cracked.

Put down the nutcrakcer and learn to twist a joint!

10. Dumplings are meant to be flat.

Slippery dumplings are the only way to enjoy chicken and dumplings, and we'll defend that rule to our death.

We've got a lot in common - the things we love, and even the things that make us mad. Can you relate to these 15 Sure-Fire Ways To Make A Delawarean Mad?
