The state of Colorado is about to be torn. Why? The Old Farmers' Almanac Winter Weather Map for 2018-2019 was recently released, and depending on your winter preferences and where you live, you're going to either love it or hate it. We typically see some variation between regions, but this year, Colorado is divided between three different forecasts... some more pleasant than others. Let's check it out:
While we're still in the midst of summer, the folks at the Old Farmer's Almanac are already looking ahead at the upcoming season. Their Winter Weather Map for 2018-2019 is predicting an array of forecasts for different portions of Colorado.
As you can see, northwest Colorado is expected to have a mild, yet snowy season, while southwestern and central areas will see colder, wetter weather. Eastern Colorado, however, is in for a warm, dry winter.
Along the Eastern Plains, the Almanac foresees milder-than-normal temperatures, thanks to both a weak El Niño and a decrease in solar activity.
In the north and northwestern part of the state, we can expect mild temperatures and lots of snow, which sounds like an oxymoron, but should be pleasant.
As for the southwest region? A warm and wet winter is predicted, with both comfortable temperatures and more rain than usual.
Colorado's average winter temperature is 50.7°F, with highs around 65°F and lows dropping to 36.4°F.
In terms of snowfall, Denver averages a whopping 64 inches of snow each year, which is nearly 38 inches more than the national average of 26 inches!
So how accurate are the Old Farmer's Almanac's predictions? As per their website, the Old Farmer's Almanac has been producing seasonal forecasts since 1972 with an accuracy rate of around 80%.
Will they be correct about this upcoming Colorado winter? We will find out soon enough!
How do you feel about the winter predictions for where you live? Will you be enjoying milder temperatures and sunny days? Pining for more of the cold, white stuff? Bemoaning the piles of snow to shovel? One thing's for sure: we're in for an unusual season!
