It is often said that the best things in life are free, and here at Only In Vermont couldn’t agree more. With costs on the rise for just about everything, it’s great to venture out and do something for free every once in a while. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Vermont and the best part is that they can be done without opening your wallet! Let’s check out some great – and free – things to do in our beautiful state.
1. Take an art walk.
Bennington has a wonderful stroll where the galleries stay open late the first Friday of every month. Montpelier has a great one, too. Fun, cultural, social and FREE – what’s not to love?
2. Hit your local recreation path.
Whether you ride, bike, rollerblade, XC ski, snowshoe or simply enjoy a walk, hop onto your local rec path for some fast, easy and free fun.
3. Take in a live show.
Battery Park, Church Street, fairs and farmers markets are just a few places throughout Vermont where you can often find a free concert or some kind of live music.
4. See something special.
Museums and libraries such as the UVM Follett House often have wonderful special collections.
Sugar houses are open all year, so take a tour – and a taste!
6. Take me to the fair.
From strolling heifers to mac and cheese, there is no shortage of festivals and fairs happening in Vermont throughout the year. Take part in the hustle and bustle of the crowds, music and activities and you will always find something new and interesting!
