Were you a fan of the action star Charles Bronson? Aside from being known for his rugged looks and "tough guy" image, he starred in films such as The Dirty Dozen, Assassination, The Great Escape, and the Death Wish blockbuster series. During his impressive career, Bronson was nominated for an Emmy and won a Golden Globe award. He was also celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1980.
Although Bronson was born in Pennsylvania, his family chose to have him laid to rest in the Green Mountain State. If you're curious to know more, read on to learn about Bronson and his unique celebrity tie to Vermont.
Charles Bronson was born in 1921 and passed away in 2003. During his life and career, he was married three times and had four children. He was a successful Hollywood actor who starred in numerous action films.
Even though he was an international movie star, his family had him laid to rest at Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor, Vermont.
Bronson lived on Zuleika Farm, a 400-acre property in West Windsor from the 1970s up until his death. The farm was his peaceful escape from the glitz and glamor (and paparazzi) in Hollywood.
In addition to being the site of Charles Bronson's grave, the stunning cemetery is set in a serene setting and faces Mount Ascutney.
Bronson is buried alongside the ashes of his second wife, Jill Ireland, who was also a well-known actress.
The couple was married in 1968 and remained together until she passed from breast cancer in 1990. During their time as a couple, they acted in 15 movies together.
This photo of the couple was snapped in New York City in 1979.
If you decide to pay your respects to Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland, take time to read this meaningful poem, titled 'Immortality,' by Clare Harneri in 1934.
Many visitors to the gravesite are surprised by the poem, which shows a softer side of the famous tough guy.
