What This Drone Footage Captured At This Abandoned North Carolina Speedway Is Truly Grim

North Carolina is known for a lot of things, with one of those being Nascar. With Charlotte Motor Speedway and smaller tracks throughout the state, it’s safe to say North Carolinians enjoy watching a good race. But one track that paved the way for Nascar and racing in North Carolina now sits abandoned, decayed and forgotten.

Many have tried to hop the fence for a glance of this abandoned place, some have photographed here, and photographer Seph Lawless even did a whole feature on North Wilkesboro Speedway. The speedway opened in 1947 to a crowd of 10,000, saw extreme success throughout the following years, and was known as one of the fastest short tracks in the U.S. But the times always change and with that, North Wilkesboro changed. But many North Carolinians already know the story, and many are also curious about what has come to be of the track now. Well, this amazing drone footage lets you dodge the trespassing charges and see the speedway firsthand. Enjoy.

It’s sad to think of the cars that raced this track, the roaring engines, and atmosphere. It’s truly something different and even haunting now. What did you think of this video? Do you have memories of the park?
