This Might Just Be The Most Peaceful Town In All Of Montana

Fort Benton in Montana is a tranquil small town with historic sites and scenic views along the Missouri River.

If you want to find a peaceful Montana town, all you have to do is step outside. Our state is beautifully quiet, and that's one of the things we love the most about it. But there's something especially tranquil about Fort Benton.

Fort Benton is the best of both worlds: It's definitely a small town, but you'll still find plenty of amenities here.

The downtown area is quaint, but it's charming.

Perhaps it's the waterfront location that makes this little city so peaceful.

Fort Benton sits right on the Missouri River.

The historic "bridge to nowhere" was built in 1888.

It's been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.

The bridge is far from the only century-old structure in town.

The Grand Union Hotel was constructed in 1882, and it has been beautifully preserved. In fact, you'll find one of the best restaurants in town here.

For a true testament to the town's values, check out the monument dedicated to Old Shep.

Shep was a dog who followed his owner to the hospital in town. Unfortunately, his owner didn't make it, and his family had his body shipped home. But poor Shep waited faithfully for his human until the day he died, and he's now immortalized in Fort Benton.

There's really never a bad time to visit this amazing city.

It's especially stunning in the summer and fall, but if you catch it during a mild part of winter, it's just as breathtaking.

It really doesn't get more peaceful than this.

Even in Montana.

Fort Benton Might be Montana's most peaceful town, but it's far from the only contender. These local towns offer nothing but precious peace and quiet.
