This Underrated Trail In Montana Leads To A Hidden Turquoise Lake
Turquoise Lake in Montana offers a challenging 12-mile hike with stunning views and a rewarding experience.
There's nothing like hiking to something truly spectacular, like a shimmering turquoise lake. In fact, we have a body of water that is -- appropriately -- named Turquoise Lake in Montana -- but if you want to see it, you'll have to put in some serious work. Rest assured, though, your efforts will be well rewarded. And you won't want to forget your camera!
The Turquoise Lake Trail is located near Condon, and it's about 12 miles long.
You'll have to drive from Highway 83 down Kraft Creek Rd for more than 11 miles before you even reach the trail.
This trail is not meant for beginners -- it's lengthy, and you'll face an elevation gain of about 1,500 feet.
This is a hike you'll want to try when you're accustomed to tougher terrain.
Of course, the reward is worth it.
Turquoise Lake is stunning.
We recommend waiting until at least June to explore Turquoise Lake -- it stays snowy well into spring.
Of course, the snowcapped mountains in the distance are gorgeous.
Some people turn this trail into a backpacking excursion and spend the night.
There really isn't a more amazing scene to wake up to in the morning.
This is a wilderness area, so if you go, come prepared with plenty of supplies and bear spray.
You'll definitely want to stay awhile once you're here.
