Here Are 7 Dishes That Permanently Changed Montana’s Food Scene
Montana is known for its iconic and delicious local dishes, including huckleberries, pasties, and specialty burgers.
Some Montanans like to live near the mountains, others prefer to make their home on the plains... but all Montanans love to eat. We've either invented or perfected some seriously delicious dishes over the years, and as a result, we've got some tasty iconic treats that have changed our food scene for the better. How many of these have you tried?
1. Huckleberries
Just imagine the Montana food scene without all the delicious huckleberry treats. It's impossible, isn't it?
2. Huckleberry bear claws from the Polebridge Mercantile
Speaking of huckleberries... is it even possible to go to the mercantile without ordering one of these? The world may never know.
3. Wheat
OK, so wheat isn't exactly a dish so much as an ingredient. The wheat industry is still vital to our economic success here in the Treasure State. Besides, without it, we wouldn't have Wheat Montana.
4. Pasties
Montana can't take credit for inventing pasties — that honor goes to the U.K. But we certainly have perfected them.
5. Flathead cherries
These cherries will ruin you for all others... but we're okay with that. They even have their own festival.
6. Specialty burgers
Places like The Burger Dive in Billings and Rod's in Havre (Ugly Burger, anyone?) have really put Montana on the map as a burger mecca. What can we say... we love our meat.
7. Buffalo
Call it bison, call it buffalo... whatever you call it, we love this lean, flavorful meat.
What foods will forever remind you of Montana? Here are a few of our most iconic meals.
