With a raging winter and only a few months of summer, Maine isn’t exactly known for its water park options. We have some great ones, but after a few summers of the same thing over and over again these can start to make summer feel like a repeat of the year before. You won't find your typical greasy lakeside lunch at this modest snack shack on Sabbathday Lake.

It's run by James Beard Award-nominated chef Krista Kern Desjarlais, former chef/owner of Portland's Bresca, where she's slinging gourmet hot dogs, sandwiches and more to hungry beachgoers all summer. On the menu: Alsace Dog - bockwurst, sauerkraut, violet mustard, beer jelly. Visit them at 106 Outlet Road, New Gloucester / 207-926-3388.
It's worth the visit even if you don't plan on going to the beach.

This wonderful lakeside water park is also located near Sabbath Day Shaker Village.

The village is located on 1,800 acres of farm and forest land and includes seventeen historic structures dated from between 1780 and 1950. It's the only existing Shaker Village in the world!
