A tiny eatery with a BIG reputation, Al’s Hamburger Shop is wedged between two towering buildings on Green Bay’s Washington Street.
But don’t let its size fool you. This landmark burger and shake joint has been sought out by hungry diners near and far.
It’s been the go-to for classic burgers and milkshakes since opening back in 1934.
Despite having to be rebuilt after a fire in 2011, Al’s interior has retained a vintage vibe, reminiscent of diners from decades past.
The retro setting isn’t the only classic thing about Al’s, though. There’s also its famous classic burgers.
They may be called “classic” but there’s nothing ordinary about Al’s classic hamburgers, which are seasoned just right, grilled to perfection, and dressed with pickles and onions.
You can also add a few other toppings, such as cheese, bacon, and egg.
Suitable for appetites of all sizes, Al’s classic hamburgers come with your choice of ½-pound or ¼-pound patties. And for those with a huge burger craving, there’s the 131 Special, which includes four ¼-pound patties.
And if you're really, really hungry, there's the Double 131 Special.
But not everything at Al’s is conventional. In addition to classic hamburgers, the menu includes several specialty burgers.
Like a party for your tastebuds, the specialty burgers have 1/2-pound patties, which are made of choice ground chuck and brisket.
It’s not just the patties that make Al’s specialty burgers, well, special. Each burger boasts topping combinations that are anything but ordinary.
Burgers aren’t Al’s only signature item though. Remember the milkshakes we mentioned? They’re just as brag-worthy as the hamburgers.
And just like their beefy counterparts, the shakes come in a savory spectrum of flavors. What’s more, you can combine flavors to create your own milkshake.
Al’s Hamburger Shop opens daily at 10 a.m. For more information, call (920) 437-5114. You can also visit the Al’s Hamburger Shop website or Facebook page.
