Stevens Point’s Iverson Park has been the place for winter thrills for decades. The city park not only has a big sledding hill and a skating rink, but it also has 300-foot-long toboggan slides that are as much fun as they were in the 1940s. Put on your snow pants, winter boots, hat, and mittens. Good times are waiting for you at Iverson Park. Here’s what you need to know.
You’ll find Iverson Park on the east side of Stevens Point, on the south side of Main Street. It’s not far from Interstate 39 and it covers about 100 acres.
The park was created in the 1920s when a new pumping station was built to supply water for the city. The surrounding land was developed as a park.
Iverson Park is a place for recreation in any season - it has a swimming area, hiking trails, and canoe rentals. But some of the biggest fun happens in the winter.
The park has full winter recreational facilities that include an outdoor lighted ice skating rink, a cross-country ski trail, a snowshoe trail, a sledding hill with three runs, and toboggan runs that were built in the 1940s.
The city continues to maintain the toboggan runs and they offer some old-school thrills – they run a full 300 feet!
Kids of all ages have a blast on the toboggan runs – just dress warmly and get ready to smile!
The winter recreation season at Iverson Park typically runs from the second week of December through the first week of March, depending on the weather and how much snow the area has received. The park is open from sunrise until 11 p.m. - the warming hour hours vary. See details about the park here.
