Don’t let the name fool you; Devil’s Punchbowl in Menomonie is a geologic wonder that’s brimming with idyllic beauty!
A prime spot for an outdoor excursion, the nature preserve is basically a mini-ecosystem – complete with cliffs, waterfalls, underground springs, and other incredible natural features.
Its history also includes several name changes. The area’s first official moniker was Black’s Ravine, which references Samuel Black, the first owner of the land.
Eventually, the name was changed to Paradise Valley and then, finally, to Devil’s Punchbowl. Though the origin of the name is unknown, some believe it’s inspired by the mascot of the nearby University of Wisconsin–Stout.
A great visit any time of year, the landscape transforms with each season. Visit in the summer and spring, and you’ll find Devil’s Punchbowl brimming with lush greenery and rare flora.
