10 Things People Miss The Most About West Virginia When They Leave

Discover the best hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest, known for their stunning scenic views and diverse landscapes.

As much as we love West Virginia, sometimes jobs and families take us elsewhere in the world. While we may leave the Mountain State, it will never leave us.

Here are a few of the things we miss most about West Virginia when we move away:

1. The mountains

I know when I moved away briefly, I was often homesick for the mountains. This looks like home to me.

2. Hearing other people with our accent

After you’re away for a while, these can sound like music to your ears.

3. Fields of fireflies

There’s something magical about seeing a field light up like this.

4. The people

Of course you miss your family and friends there, but you also miss how friendly even the strangers are as you walk down the street or pass them in businesses.

5. Autumn

You don’t get color like this just anywhere.

6. The gold dome of the Capitol building.

I've said it before, but when I was a kid traveling for vacation or whatnot, I always knew I was home when I saw the gold on the capitol dome.

7. The sunsets

You can’t beat this view.

8. Our state parks and forests.

Whether you like hiking, fishing or mountain climbing, West Virginia's outdoor recreation cannot be beat.

9. Our college football teams

Going to WVU and Marshall games is one of the things that makes fall so great here.

10. Tudor's Biscuits

Real talk: how many of you who have moved away still get a Tudor's Biscuit whenever you're home? I used to make sure I did at least once in a while.

For those of you who have moved away, what are some of the things you miss most about West Virginia?
