With a spine of steel balanced by the grace of a delicate spring wildflower, she governed her country with finesse and determination for decades. Beloved by many, she inspired an entire era and her reach extends far beyond just politics - into art, music, and especially, architecture.

From June of 1837 to January of 1901, one woman sat on the throne of England: Queen Victoria.

Her reign, her marriage, her family, and her love for her country inspired many, and the "Victorian Era" lives on... even in West Virginia.

Welcome to the Eckhart House, also known as the Victorian "Crown Jewel" of Wheeling.

The Eckhart House was built in 1892 and has been meticulously cared for inside and out ever since, creating one of the best examples of Victorian Era architecture in the state.

Step inside, and you'll see why. The dining room furnishings are consistent with the theme of this regal old Victorian house, with ornate wooden buffets, gracefully curved chairs and tables, and shelves upon shelves of delicate china.

Some of that china is even available for purchase in their gift shop!

The original woodwork is always polished, and that painted botanic mural on the wall is a painstakingly preserved part of the original 1890s decor!

And then, if all that wasn't enough, there are the stunning stained glass windows that are scattered throughout this grand old house.

With all this and more to its name, the Eckhart House truly is a state treasure. And it's open to the public! You can take a historic tour of the home or sit and sip tea with friends or even host your next event here in true Victorian style.
