The One-of-A-Kind West Virginia Chocolate Festival Is The Sweetest Thing You’ll Ever Do
Most people consider chocolate to be one of life’s most indulgent treats. So, it is probably no surprise that West Virginia has a festival to celebrate the delicious food.
The history of chocolate goes all the way back to the Mayan civilization starting around 250 A.D., and it has never lost its appeal. In downtown Lewisburg, the indulgent treat is celebrated annually, and it is always packed.
In Lewisburg, located in Greenbrier County, the second Saturday in April is chocolate day. Folks come from all around to sample a variety of different chocolates and chocolate infused treats.
The festival's primary event, The Tasting Extravaganza, is held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event itself is free, but tickets are required to taste chocolates at the different venues. One of the most popular is the chocolate truffles.
But truffles are just a few of the many things to try. If it has chocolate as a primary ingredient, or as a major addition to an existing food - such as the chocolate covered strawberries - you are likely to find it at the festival.
More than 40 chocolate vendors attend the festival each year, serving up treats that include chocolate-covered Oreos, mousse, pudding, cakes, candies, the list goes on. It is highly unlikely you will leave the festival unsatisfied with the selection.
And of course, no chocolate celebration would be complete without the king of chocolate himself, Willy Wonka. Every year, Willy can be found wandering around the festival, available for pictures and to greet fellow attendees.
Aside from the tastings, the festival has live music, a mousse eating competition, the Chocolate Chase 10K Race, and the All Things Chocolate Bake-Off.
And be sure to bring the kids along as well. The festival offers a variety of activities for your children, including story time, balloon animals, and many chocolate-themed activities.

The festival is located in downtown Lewisberg, about 10 miles west of White Sulphur Springs.
