This Beloved Restaurant Is A True Washington Treasure
Whitehouse-Crawford in Walla Walla offers a historic dining experience with locally sourced, seasonal dishes and a curated wine selection.
If you've been to Walla Walla in the last few years, you've probably noticed that new restaurants are popping up all over town. As the city becomes increasingly known nationwide as a wine destination, it makes sense that more and more delicious eateries are opening. But if you're looking for a tried-and-true taste of classic Walla Walla, you'll still find it at Whitehouse-Crawford.
Whitehouse-Crawford Restaurant is located at 55 W Cherry St., in a building that dates back to 1880.
Back then, it was the Enterprise Planing Mill and Furniture Company, owned by the partnership Cooper and Schmuck.
Unfortunately, the original wooden structure burned down in 1903.
It was rebuilt with brick the following year, and eventually, it was owned by Whitehouse and Crawford. The Whitehouse-Crawford operated as a lumber planing mill and furniture factory until its sale to the City of Walla Walla in 1988.
The building is listed on both the Washington Heritage Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
And it is, in fact, full of local history. The lumber for the floors is from the nearby Blue Mountains, and the boiler face that welcomes you into the restaurant is over 100 years old.
The food is sourced from local farmers and artisans, and it's exceptionally delicious.
Everything is fresh, meaning the menu always has seasonal specials.
The Crispy Fried Walla Walla Onions are a popular pick.
They're pretty tasty after a long day of wine tasting.
Speaking of wine, you'll find an excellent local selection here, as well as vino from around the world.
The collection has been carefully chosen to pair with the menu.
Jamie Guerin is the owner and head chef here, and he and his team work hard to create their culinary masterpieces.
And the food here never disappoints.
Whithouse-Crawford is open every day but Tuesday, from 5 - 9 p.m. for dinner.
Trying a new restaurant in town is always exciting, but this place is a timeless treasure worth enjoying.
