Last week, we looked at what Washington was like in the 1950s, but there’s something uniquely special about every decade that’s passed in our state. The 1960s were a spectacular time as well – especially around the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle when there were several iconic structures built that we can still see today. 1. The iconic Space Needle was built in a record-breaking time of just over a year so it could be featured at the opening of the fair in 1962.
10. The Mural Amphitheater was also constructed for the fair in 1962. Illustrated by renowned artist Paul Horiuchi, it now serves as a well-known venue for concerts, festivals and events.
