The What-A-Burger on Jefferson Avenue is just a stone’s throw away from the first franchise that opened over 65 years ago. Visiting this store is like stepping back in time in the best way possible.

The What-A-Burger franchise was established in 1957, and the very first location actually opened its doors in 1950. It was situated near the Newport News Circle on Jefferson Avenue.
Today, the first-ever What-A-Burger is located just west of its original location. When you visit, you'll feel as though you've traveled back in time by a few decades!
On the menu, you'll find an array of classic burger-joint offerings. What sets What-A-Burger apart, though, is the size of the burger buns. They're much bigger than your typical fast food variety.
