While we truly believe that all of our state's campsites offer loads of scenic beauty, there are some that stand out as being a little extra special. New River Campground is one of them. Located just outside of Independence, Virginia, this stretch of shoreline is nothing short of a retreat, and also one of the state's most amazing hidden and undiscovered gems! Sitting at an elevation of 2,600 feet, the campground covers a mile of riverfront property. This particular stretch of the river is where the North and South Forks converge, meaning you'll enjoy expansive views of the water from every campsite. If you are looking to camp with expansive waterfront views, this is the place!
What other state and national parks are there in Virginia?
There are 41 state parks in Virginia, each one offering its own history and beauty. Among them are First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, and Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson. As far as national parks, believe it or not, there are actually 18 of them! They range from scenic spots like those discussed above, to historical sites including the Prince William Forest Park, Fort Monroe National Monument, and Manassas National Battlefield Park, just to name a few, all of which fall under the National Park Foundation designation.
