In light of Virginia’s first major snowfall of the season, we’re looking back and remembering one of the most epic snowfalls to grace the Old Dominion. In 2010, a snowstorm, appropriately nicknamed Snowmageddon, took the whole state by surprise as a nearly endless bout of snow seemed to cover everything in a sheet of white for a week. Here’s more on the epic snow blizzard that’s impossible to forget:

It was February 5th of 2010 when a steady snowfall arrived in the Northeastern United States and made its way to Virginia.

During that time, nearly every one of the mid-Atlantic states received a record amount of snowfall. As you likely recall, Virginia was no exception.

Both air and interstate travel were brought to a screeching halt as over 30 inches quickly accumulated in various parts of the state.

Dulles airport received a whopping 46 inches, the highest recorded total in its history.
