If you've never ventured to southwestern Virginia to see Breaks Interstate Park, there's no better time than the fall season. Shared between the two states of Virginia and Kentucky, this impressive park features miles upon miles of gorgeous natural landscape.

The crown jewel of the park is, of course, the Grand Canyon of the South. The park offers several overlooks where hikers and visitors can appreciate its stunning beauty.

The term "break" refers to the split in Pine Mountain resulting from the flow of the Russell Fork of the Big Sandy River.

On its pathway to the Ohio River, the Russel Fork River has over time carved out a canyon 1,000 feet deep.

The canyon stretches for more than 5 miles and in certain places, is more than 1,600 feet deep. It's the largest canyon east of the Mississippi River.

While the landmark is impressive at any time of year, there's something about seeing the canyon adorned in fall colors that is truly magical.
