If you have ever wondered if there are any easy waterfall hikes near you in Virginia, we've got you covered. Virginia's waterfalls are truly spectacular. And the best part of all? Many of them are relatively easy to access and don't require a strenuous, all-day hiking excursion. Because sometimes, it's better to spend your time admiring the waterfall (or swimming under it) than getting to it. That's why we've compiled a list of six easy-to-access Virginia waterfalls that are perfect for a summer adventure. So gather up your hiking boots, swimsuits, and towels, and prepare to be dazzled.
1. Falling Spring Falls
Perhaps one of the most iconic and easy-to-get-to waterfalls in Virginia, Falling Spring Falls is also one of the easiest to view. In fact, it's located right off Route 220 with its own designated parking area. Take a few steps from the lot and you'll be treated to the majestic view photographed above. The waterfall measures 80 feet and after heavy rainfall, the spectacle of this iconic waterfall is all the more dramatic. Learn more about planning a visit to Falling Spring Falls.
2. Crabtree Falls
Unlike Falling Spring Falls, which doesn't require any hiking, Crabtree Falls is all about the hike. What makes this trail totally unique is the fact that it meanders alongside the waterfall for its entirety. That's right; as you climb upwards, you'll be drawing closer to the origin of the waterfall. Crabtree Falls is the longest series of cascading waterfalls east of the Mississippi, so it's truly bucket-list worthy. Plus, if you're not interested in climbing the 1.5-mile trek upward, you can see the lower section of the falls near the parking area. Here's more on what to expect when hiking Crabtree Falls in Virginia.
3. Statons Creek Falls
Statons Creek Falls is one of the lesser-known waterfalls on this list. When you visit, you'll likely be one of the few admirers of this waterfall. The 140-foot waterfall is just a brief walk from the parking area. Afterward, you can venture to Panther Falls, which is less than 10 miles away. There's a parking area for Statons Creek Falls located along the parking area along CR-633, and the upper portion of the falls can be seen from here.
4. Dark Hollow Falls
There's a reason Dark Hollow Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Shenandoah National Park. The 1.4-mile hike leads to a breathtaking waterfall rushing over picturesque greenstone. The trailhead for the waterfall is located at mile 50.7 of Skyline Drive. Learn more about hiking Dark Hollow Falls.
5. Dismal Falls
Don't be fooled by the name; the Falls of Dismal is anything but dismal. This lovely staircase-like waterfall is located in Giles County and can be accessed via a short and sweet 0.1-mile trail. Despite being only 10 feet high, there's so much to appreciate about this unique waterfall in Virginia. And the best part of all? You can even swim at the base of the waterfall! Just be sure to arrive as early as possible to avoid crowds.
6. Roaring Run
If you're up for a 1.7-mile hike, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views of the Roaring Run Falls. Surprisingly, this waterfall is only one of the main attractions in the area. The other is a historic iron furnace that was built in 1832 and represents the importance of the iron industry during the nineteenth century. This trail is great for the whole family, as there's so much to admire at every turn. Here's more information on hiking Roaring Run Furnace Trail.
