When you want to get away from the busyness of the city, a small and charming farm town is just the place. While Utah is certainly filled with these delightful small towns, one of our favorites is Morgan. With nearby state parks, outdoor opportunities, unique landmarks, rich history, and so much more, this charming little farm town in Utah is truly the perfect place to get away from it all.
Morgan's history dates back to 1861. However, it wasn't until 1868 that Morgan officially became a town.
In 1868 and 1869, the transcontinental railroad was constructed and Morgan was along its main route. The railroad helped the town grow and flourish and provided many jobs and business opportunities.
Today, as you explore this town, particularly Main Street, you’ll notice many local shops with all types of remarkable goods. Yet, despite the many places to visit, Morgan still has a quiet, rural, and laid-back feeling.
Morgan also sits right along Interstate 84, making it easy to visit incredible outdoor destinations and landmarks. For example, approximately 10 miles east of Morgan and on Interstate 84, you will come to Devil's Slide.
This Utah landmark consists of two large layers of limestone that parallel each other, appearing like a giant slide. Each rock formation is approximately 40 feet tall and 20 feet wide — it's quite impressive!
Approximately 15 miles south of Morgan on Highway 66 is East Canyon State Park. This state park is home to the beautiful East Canyon Reservoir.
During the summer, East Canyon State Park becomes a popular location for boating, fishing, and swimming. This Utah state park is also an International Dark Sky Park and is where you can capture mesmerizing star shows on clear nights.
And if you want someplace unique to spend the night during your time in Morgan, consider a stay at East Canyon State Park.
Here, you can stay in a unique hammock campsite. You can also journey back in time and reserve one of the two charming covered wagons, which are perfect for a glamping adventure.
When hunger strikes during your visit to Morgan, head to Deb’s Spicy Pie.
This restaurant is where you can enjoy some of the best pizza, subs, and homemade goods in town. You’ll find yourself craving these delicious dishes long after your visit.
