Utah is home to 43 state parks. Many of these state parks are extremely well known like Antelope Island State Park, Bear Lake State Park, and Sand Hollow State Park. But, tucked away near the tiny town of Peoa is one state park that is lesser known and worthy of a visit — Rockport State Park. This state park in Utah is a wonderful destination for boating, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and more.
Peoa is an unincorporated community in southwestern Summit County. State Route 32 travels through this tiny town and approximately 200 people call this beautiful area home.
This rural community doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to attractions and activities. But, less than five miles from the community is Rockport State Park, a beautiful state park that every Utahn should visit at least once.
Rockport State Park is a year-round recreation destination but, unfortunately, it often gets overshadowed by larger state parks and nearby destinations such as Jordanelle State Park and Park City.
While open year-round, summer is the time when many people come to enjoy this beautiful area. Rockport Reservoir features a surface area of 1,080 acres and is a delightful destination for boating activities like tubing and waterskiing.
You can also throw in a line as this reservoir offers excellent fishing all year long. And, if you simply sit back and enjoy the views in the area, you may just see all types of wildlife.
Rockport State Park is also a wonderful camping destination with more than 100 campsites available that are designed for both tents and RVs.
Plus, if you love to watch the stars, this state park is not going to disappoint. Rockport State Park became a certified International Dark Sky Place in 2021 and on a clear night, I strongly recommend standing outside and enjoying the view above you — it's mesmerizing!
Plus, if you are searching for something a little unique, check out the 3D Archery Range at this state park in Utah.
Nearly one mile long, this archery range features 3D targets and practice stations to help you perfect your aim.
This range is open from April to October and you will need to provide your own bow and arrows.
Sometimes the best-hidden gems are located near the most charming small towns and that’s certainly the case with Rockport State Park. When are you planning your upcoming visit?
